International Symposium: Re-imagining Special Education through
Arts Education & Arts Therapy ------------------------------------------------------------- Calls for Papers The Power of Words conference: Liberation through the Spoken, Written and Sung Word Sept. 12 – 15, 2008, Goddard College, Plainfield, VT. The conference, a project of the Transformative Language Arts MA degree, seeks workshop proposals. The international conference attracts writers, storytellers, performers, singers and musicians, educators, activists, healers, health professionals, community leaders and more to explore how the written, spoken and sung word can bring individuals and communities liberation, celebration and transformation. The 2008 conference features keynoters Walter Mosley, novelist and author of 29 books; Kelley Hunt, international-touring rhythm and blues singer-songwriter; Bread and Puppet Theatre, social change drama; Rick Jarow, author of Creating the Work You Love and founder of the anti-career movement; and Sherry Reiter, poetry therapy pioneer. We are especially interested in workshop proposals from people of color, people under 40, or workshop proposals that focus on social change, the spoken or sung word, and how to make a living through our language arts and in service to our communities. To learn more, and to submit a conference proposal, please visit http://www.goddard.edu/powerofwords. The deadline for proposals (to be emailed to us) is Jan. 15, 2008. For more information, please contact TLAconference@goddard.edu. -------------------------------------------------------------
